It’s official. In September 2022, the Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared TV series will be launching on Channel 4. And while the new trailer remains elusively (and perhaps mercifully) short, it is far from sweet – confirming what we all prayed for from the long-overdue project: it’s still really creepy.

Titled Fly, the promo (launched as the first upload in a whopping six years on the official Don’t Hug Me . I’m Scared YouTube channel) opens by transporting us straight to a fly-filled abandoned warehouse which may as well be plucked from Texas Chainsaw. Through the static of a discarded TV, we find ourselves amidst the fateful colourful kitchen where it all began. It takes all but a few seconds for things to get violent, as Duck, one of the original trio, swats a fly before creepily declaring: “Pesky bee”. And that’s your lot narrative-wise – no more DHMIS clues until September.

The TV version of the iconic YouTube web series has long been in the works. Ever since the first two episodes hit the platform in 2011, both epitomising and revolutionising early internet culture and humour, its creators Becky Sloan and Joseph Pelling have been working on bringing more episodes to the world. Securing funding via Kickstarter in 2016 and producing four more episodes, DHMIS has since lay dormant. That is, until an announcement in 2018 that the original puppet creation would return as a TV series.

It would be another three years wait before fans would hear from Becky Sloan in September 2021 that the creator had just wrapped filming on a TV show.

Such an agonising wait seems to only have whet audience’s appetites; the Fly trailer has amassed over two million views in two days. Check it out above, and never forget: green is not a creative colour.
