Well well well, here we are again – our most-read graphic design stories of the year. As ever, some of the most inventive type design projects were in the top spots, including HeyPorter!’s lego stacking fonts, Biliktu Foundry’s storytelling typefaces and Jeremias Diekmann’s jazz-infused lettering. We also saw some designers using their materials in innovative and never-seen-before ways: Laura Hilbert made posters out of clay, Yuna Kim created exhibition postcards that doubled up as scratchcards, and Pay2Play put the index of a book on its outer margin.

To mark international women’s day in early spring, Renée Elizabeth Clarke put together a selection of women to watch out for in the world of graphic design. And later on in the year, we brought you lists of five exceptional museum identities and five designers making brilliant music posters. Meanwhile, food and drink design got you drooling through the tasteful branding work of Leila Register, Emma Dragovic and Fakepaper studio. People also proved themselves to have a taste for things on the darker side, with the stylishly sinister work of Zheng Kai and Facultative Works creeping their way onto the list.
